Summary: It occurred to her to open the window and let in fresh air and the sweet aroma of the fruit trees that were now finally starting to blossom in the garden; spring, her favourite season, had finally arrived in Belabartokovich, and she wanted to get her fill of it. It was not something her husband was too fond of — the centuries spent in darkness had made him wary of such earthly pleasures, and old habits died hard even when one had triumphed over death.
