"You ever thought about it? Becoming a client?" asked Roxy.

When she got no answer, she swiveled in her chair and tried again:

"Seriously, Eva. Just think about it: it's your dying day and you can make your life into anything you want. What would you do?"

"That's a cheerful thought for the holidays."

But she did think about it. What would she do, given a do over? What would she want, if life had no limit? Her own private island was the obvious answer, but she kept going back to smaller changes. A better relationship with her sister. The infinite patience needed to deal with Neil's bullshit. A job that didn't keep her up at night, literally or otherwise.

She shook her head.

"No point in thinking about that now. If I don't like something, I've got plenty of time to do something about it."

But she wasn't doing anything about it, was she? Sometimes she was so sure that she never would. That, against her better judgement, the knowledge that her dream life was just one dying wish away would forever keep her from making too much of an effort. Easy solutions were a lot harder to dismiss when they stared you in the face every day at work.

There was time, there was always time; still the question ate at her like one of SigCorp’s ad spots:
