Summary: How he had waited for this night in feverish excitement, barely daring to trust the weather forecast in the newspaper, lest he might set himself up for yet another disappointment, but for once the Gods or whoever was in charge were on his side, and what had begun as mild drizzle late in the evening, merely enough to annoy the patrons leaving the opera house after the performance, had increased steadily over the hours, much like Erik’s excitement, until it had bloomed into this almost biblical deluge, accentuated with thunder and lightning fit to strike fear into the hearts of the morally sane.
