“I don’t think this is a good idea,” Mary Anne cautioned Kristy and Claudia. She had a feeling that her admonitions would be ignored by the twosome, but still felt the need to press on. “Why do you want to switch the wires to Janine’s computer?”

Janine was Claudia’s older sister, and she was a bonafide, certified, genius. Mr. and Mrs. Kishi had gotten her a computer over the winter break, and Claudia had spent the entire time between then and now complaining about Janine’s use of it. Mary Anne wasn’t sure why. It wasn’t as if Claudia had ever wanted to hang out with Janine when she hadn’t had a computer.

Kristy gave her a knowing gaze. “Because, Mary Anne, it’s a joke.”

“Yeah,” Claudia chimed in. “It’s supposed to be funny. It’s April Fools Day. Janine will get a big kick out of it.”

Mary Anne scrunched up her nose in thought. She hated April Fools Day. Her dad had told her that pranking people was juvenile, and that what people thought would be amusing to them, often wasn’t amusing to others. In fact, he had explained to her that pranks were often cruel. Especially to the victim. Wasn’t Janine a victim?

“I don’t think it’s very funny,” she settled on. “Even though it’s April Fools Day.”

“Well,” Kristy said, after a moment. “We’re doing it. Whether you want to, or not.”

She really didn’t want to. “My dad will get mad at me,” she muttered. Her gaze cast to the ground. Kristy and Claudia would get mad at her too. Mary Anne’s dad, however, was more important. She didn’t want him to say she needed an afterschool sitter again. “I have to go home.”

Title: April Showers
Author/Team: T'Lara (Larissa Bernstein) / Team Rainbow Fish
Fandom/Original: Star Trek TOS
Rating: teen
Triggers: none
Summary: He was definitely not someone to exploit his privilege and excessively take advantage of luxuries only available to higher ranks in the chain of command, but sometimes, just sometimes, there were undeniable benefits to the accoutrements of captaincy, specifically of the captain’s quarters and the ensuite bathroom.

ConCrit: Always happy about comments/reviews, ideally on AO3.

Uncle sat with perfect composure, but no Lan could have failed to recognize the barely-contained indignation, ready to be unleashed on anyone foolish enough to comment on his freshly-shaven chin.

This was no laughing matter, and so Xichen, of course, did not laugh.

Still—he'd have to see, later, if young master Wei had a mind to hear more stories of his mother. After all, it was his duty as a senior to provide guidance to his juniors, and Xichen just so happened to remember a story about frogs in the dormitories that the young man would find particularly enlightening.
