4th June, 1993

Ducky’s coming to visit in a few days. On the phone he said he needed a vacation. Some space to figure things out. What with Sunny’s mom dying and his other eighth-grade group having their own issues this year. Visiting his certifiable fuckup of a best friend who barely qualifies for the title… not exactly postcard material, huh?

Is it bad that I keep wondering if he’s only here to make sure I don’t give myself monoxide poisoning again? Or ‘get lost’ in the bird sanctuary out here?

Okay, I guess that’s not fair. He really does care about me — I’ve never seen him so mad. I wish he’d blow up like that when the Cro-Mags make fun of him.

Crap. It’s almost lunchtime. I can’t believe I spent half the day daydreaming about showing him the birds around Lake Sweetapple. Time to go set up my binoculars.
